This is a beautiful romance in which, through the protagonist's autobiography, the midget and bizarre Oskar Matzerath, the author tells German History during the XX century's most critical years.
Frequently the protagonist seems to be the personification and a symbol of Germany itself during those years with these biografies running initially in parallel being extremely confused at the end.
I think that this is a very good book having a very pleasant reading. It is a real "European Literature Classic" by now...
