R. Musil: "L'uomo senza qualità/The man without qualities"

Mi sono fatto coraggio e ho letto (non posso dire tutto d'un fiato) "L'uomo senza qualità" di Musil. Premetto subito che non lo potrei definire un romanzo perchè non c'è una "storia" vera e propria. Si tratta di una lunghissima dissertazione sulla società europea particolarmente decadente all'inizio del XX secolo. 

Ho fatto un bel po' di fatica per leggerlo e, soprattutto, per finirlo, anche se qua e là ci sono dei passaggi veramente di grandissima letteratura.

Consiglio la lettura al lettore accanito e molto paziente: da leggere per accrescere la propria cultura personale.

I've decided with a remarkable courage to read "The man without qualities" by Musil. In my opinion it cannot be considered a real novel, in the common meaning of this term, because I think that there is'nt any story in this book. It's a (very, very, very) long dissertation about the decadent european society at the beginning of the XX century.

It has been not so easy for me to read it and, above all, to finish it, even if there are some really great parts worth of note. 

I suggest this book to a tenacious reader: it can be read to increase personal culture.

K. Kraus: Gli ultimi giorni dell'umanità/The Last Days of Mankind

Una grande opera teatrale la cui protagonista è totalmente la I guerra mondiale. E' un dramma di dimensioni ciclopiche anche perchè descrive l'estinzione di un mondo e di un'epoca. L'epoca contemporanea si fa largo con violenza lungo le pagine di questo libro.

Un libro molto difficile. Primo perchè è un'opera teatrale. Secondo: si parla di un mondo ormai totalmente dimenticato dai più. Terzo: si parla di questo dramma in modo sottilmente grottesco. E' veramente la descrizione della fine del mondo, in particolare di un certo mondo. Molto bello il saggio di Roberto Calasso.

This is a great theatre work in which the real protagonist is th 1st World War. It 's a dramatic work having cyclopic dimensions also because the author describes the end of a wolrd and an era. Modern times shoves with its violence along the pages of this book.

This is thus a difficult book firstly because it's a theatre work. Secondly this is the dramatic story of a world completely forgotten by contemporary people. Thirdly this is really the grotesque description of the end of the world.

Roth J. "La marcia di Radetzky/The Radetzky March"

E veniamo ancora una volta a proporre una lettura adatta alle vacanze estive. In questo caso si tratta di un romanzo "classico" (direi quasi un "drammone") piacevole da leggere e non troppo impegnativo. La trama (che ovviamente non svelo) è incentrata in gran parte sulla "saga familiare" avendo sullo sfondo il tramonto dell'Impero Austro-Ungarico.

Insomma si legge bene sotto l'ombrellone: non è lunghissimo e può anche appassionare. Si può leggere tranquillamente spaparanzati al sole...

Today, I'm introducing once again a reading good for summer vacations. In this case "The Radetzky March" is a classic book (maybe a classical big "drama") however not too difficult to read and rather pleasant. The story (which I of course won't tell here) is mainly focused on a "family story" having on the background the end of the Austo-Hungarian Empire. Very romantic...

In brief, this book can be easily read in vacation times: it is not too long and it can attract the attention of young and not-so-young readers...
